Q: Where is Mount Vernon Baptist Church located?
A: There are two ways to get to the church from Martinsville.  One way is to take a left onto Route 57 off of Highway 58 East coming out of Martinsville at the Winn Dixie shopping center.  Turn right across from Jackson's Grocery onto Mountain Valley Road.  The church is on the left at the intersection of Mountain Valley Road and Mount Vernon Road.  The other way to get there from Martinsville is to stay on 58 East toward Danville.  In the Axton area, just after passing Axton Middle School, take a left onto Mountain Valley Road.  Go about seven miles on Mountain Valley Road and the church is on the right at the intersection of Mountain Valley Road and Mount Vernon Road.  Coming from Danville, take Highway 58 West.  Turn right on Mountain Valley Road just past the Rock House Convenience Store and the Axton Rescue Squad building.  Go about seven miles on Mountain Valley Road and the church is at the intersection of Mountain Valley Road and Mount Vernon Road.

Q: Do I have to be a Christian before I visit your church?
A: People who visit or attend our church do not have to be Christians.  However, we do hope that you will come to know the Lord as your personal Lord and Savior as you worship with us.  The steps to becoming a Christian can be found on the Plan of Salvation Page.

Q: Do you have handicapped access into the church?
A: Yes, there is a ramp located on the right side of the church that leads to the upstairs part.  There is also a door available to enter the downstairs part as well.

Q: Is there a nursery provided during the services?
A: Yes, there is a nursery provided for all services on Sundays.

Q: What is Discipleship Training?
A: Discipleship Training is open to all ages, from preschool through adults. It is a time for people to meet and gain a better understanding of how to be a true disciple for the Lord.

Q: What do the different groups in the church do?
A: The girl's and women's groups (GA's, Acteens, BYW's, Circles 1 and 2, and WMU) do Mission Projects and Love In Action Projects.  Missions projects are focused more on the unsaved.  Love in Action Projects focus more on members of the church.  These people may attend church regularly or they may be shut-ins.  Members in the different groups may put together a pounding, may send them a gift, a card, a cheer basket, or they may go and visit them.  The men's groups (RA's and Baptist Men) participate in different projects when needs in the community or elsewhere arise.  They may raise money through fundraisers to meet these specific needs.

Q: Are there any activities that children can participate in?
A: Yes, there are many.  Children visit the elderly and participate in a children's choir.  They also have an egg hunt at Easter and help decorate the church at Christmas time.  There is also a children's sermon given during the two morning services on Sunday that is just for the children.

Q: What activities do the youth participate in?
A: The youth participate in a variety of activities.  They visit the nursing home, attend Christian concerts, have lock ins, attend sports events such as hockey games, have ball games, sing in a praise and worship band, go to amusement parks, and attend church camps.

Q: What is Ridgecrest?
A: Ridgecrest is a camp for youth and their counselors.  The main focus of the camp is God and having a personal relationship with him.  All activities are teamwork based and bring a person closer to the Lord.  The whole week is a life changing experience and contains morning quiet times, small group Bible study, nightly worship services, camp wide fellowships, recreation, relay races, upbeat music, and a great staff who makes sure each camper becomes closer to God.
