Mount Vernon participates in the following ministries:
- The Jail and Prison Ministry - A portion of each week's regular offering is set aside for this ministry. The money gathered in the regular offering each week is used to support the chaplains who visit the inmates at the jail or prison. The church also provides cards for the inmates at Mothers Day and Christmas so they can send them to their parents, children, or other family members.
- The Tape Ministry - The Sunday morning sermon is recorded each week. These tapes are taken to shut-ins who cannot attend the services. In this way, people who wish they could attend church but cannot for various reasons can still hear the services that are held each week.
- FAITH Team 1 and 2 - This is a group of people in the church who go out once a week and visit the unsaved people in the community. In FAITH 1, you learn how to witness to the unsaved people. You also tell them about Sunday School and the services that are held each week. In FAITH 2, you build more on what you learn in FAITH 1, plus you learn about how to better handle situations that you come across when witnessing to people. You learn how to cope with these problems and how to deal with them.
Mount Vernon Baptist Church also takes up different offerings each year. These are promoted by the members of WMU and are supported by the church.
- North American Missions - This is also called the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. It is observed the first week of March. A week prior to taking up the offering, the church prays each day for the offering and also learns about the mission needs in the United States.
- State Missions Offering - This is also called the Alma Hunt Offering. It is observed the first week in September. This offering only supports the ministries in the state of Virginia. Henry County and Martinsville receives funds from this offering for the Raceway Ministry in April and September.
- International Missions - This is also called the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. It is observed the first week in December. This offering is in memory of Lottie Moon, who spent her life witnessing to the population of China. She is buried in Crewe, Virginia. The money raised helps missionaries in foreign countries meet their needs.
